Dear Parents and Community,

At Mt. Vernon ISD, we are currently cleaning every surface daily with a disinfectant that is a fungicide, virucide, mildewstat and bacteriacide and that kills Pseudomonas, Salmonella, Staphylococcus (including the methicillin resistant type), as well as many other genus that are too numerous to mention. We have cleaned carpets in areas of reported infections with bleach as well as other surface areas. We are cleaning toys, playground equipment, physical education equipment, activity rooms, handrails, all surfaces in the cafeteria, telephones, and anything that is inanimate.

We could, like some in the metroplex, turn out school. However, the health department states that the school is clean while the students are not here and that it is once again a possible source of infection once the students return. Each faculty member, staff member, administrator, and secretary is monitoring for the appearance of any opportunity for the school to do more.

Our problem is that even if we disinfect every possible corner of the school, we cannot monitor youngsters who have the infection and continue to play pee-wee football, soccer, baseball or just make contact in their homes with other students. Infected people go to grocery stores, clothing stores, toy stores, zoos, museums, playgrounds, churches, and doctors’ offices where they touch things and non-infected people touch those same items. I am convinced that we are going the extra mile at school to prevent the further spread of Staph. Please help us by doing the same at your home or place of employment.
