| How grades are determined |
Each six weeks Spanish grades will be based on daily grades (60%) and major tests and projects (40%). Students will earn at least 8 daily grades each six weeks. Many daily grades are based on class participation and effort.
Some daily grades, called Triple Scores will be weighted three times more heavily than typical daily work. These activities are usually open book, and might involve writing a paragraph in Spanish, reading a Spanish selection and answering comprehension questions, or participating in Show and Tell in Spanish. One of the Triple Score activities each six weeks will involve writing a reflection paper in English about a Spanish saying or proverb.
For test grades each six weeks students will take two tests in Spanish covering grammar, vocabulary and culture. The third test grade each six weeks comes from engaging in a cross cultural activity outside of class and writing a reflection paper in English about that experience. Sometimes students will complete a major project in lieu of taking a test.
Even if tests are hard for students, they can pass Spanish II and III by doing their best and participating every day. They should also take advantage of the Triple Score activities and the reflection papers written in English.
