Sometimes you need to type in Spanish. Use the following guidelines to type special characters. If you are typing a complete paper in Spanish, you might want to go to Tools - Language - Set Language and change your language from English to one of the Spanish selections.
In Word you can type an accented vowel by typing control + apostrophe and then typing the letter.
In Word and in most other programs you can use the alt key + a code in order to type special characters. Number lock must be on for this system to work. For many fonts and programs use the following codes:

ñ 0241
á 0225
é 0233
í 0237
ó 0243
ú 0250
Ñ 0209
Á 0193
É 0201
Í 0205
Ó 0211
Ú 0218
In Word and in most other programs, you can use the character map to type accented letters and other special characters. The character map is often found under Programs – Accessories – System Tools.
