Mount Vernon Elementary is a warm, friendly, student-centered campus. From the moment you enter the building, you get a sense that special things happen here. Visitors are often greeted by students and staff who cordially hold the door open for them, and our office staff are always ready to make your visit a pleasant one. No matter where you go in our building, you will find a strong academic focus and staff members who make sure that the students feel confident and smart!
We have about 500 pre-kindergarten through third grade students who are hard working, high achieving, and respectful. These values come from the student’s parents, staff members, as well as our community. This is apparent with community leaders having lunch with a third grade student, parents assisting students with reading in our hallways, and staff members taking time to watch our students compete in a local baseball or basketball games. The result of this involvement creates a strong bond between the school and the community.
State assessment results indicate the highest achievement. Mount Vernon Elementary rated Exemplary by the Texas Education Agency six out of the last eight years. Additionally, we were designated a Texas Business Education Coalition (TBEC) Honor Roll School in 2000, 2005, and 2007. This means our performance clearly puts us in the top 5% of Texas Public Schools.
My wife, Tamela, and I have 3 children: Macie 14, Brandon 11, and Sarah 6.
