The Mt. Vernon Junior High/High School Library and Media Center was built in 1994 as a state of the art facility. It offers students and teachers a variety of alternatives for accomplishing learning objectives. With a wide range of materials, the center becomes a laboratory enabling students to explore and use the information. Students become familiar with services that will prepare them to use libraries and other information agencies throughout their lives.
Students have convenient access to all media. The open areas around book stacks, audiovisual materials, current periodicals, and computers make it possible for physically impaired students to reach materials. Displays encourage students to explore new sources of information and find materials for curricular and recreational reading, viewing, and listening.
Computer networks provide a connection to nationwide, and even worldwide information. The print and non-print collection contains general and special resources. In addition to emphasizing materials, which specifically relate to various school subjects, the collection also houses materials that provide opportunities to pursue individual interests. Information is available through many formats, including books and periodicals, CD-Rom databases, video, satellite and others. Access to all resources is provided through a computerized card catalog and index. The Library/Media Center is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 A.M. to 3:45 P.M.
